God Of War is a video game developed by Sony Computer
Entertainment and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was released
worldwide on May 20, 2018 for PlayStation 4.
In the game, Kratos is the protagonist who has been imprisoned since he murdered Ares, God of War, 10 years prior to the events of the game. After breaking out of prison, Kratos sets out to complete his journey to seek revenge against those responsible for imprisoning him.
Kratos's weapon
throughout the entire series has been his Blades, two-handed weapons that can
transform into any type of melee weapon at varying speeds using an energy
mechanic called Rage. He uses these weapons to fight monsters and other human
opponents alike. Along the way, he finds allies among various factions, including
the Amazon tribe, Sparta, the Norse gods Odin and Thor, and Zeus' Olympians.
The game takes place
primarily on the Greek island of Crete. In addition to Greece, the action takes
place in several other locations, including the Norse homeworld of Asgard,
Mount Olympus, Sparta, the underworld (known as Tartarus), the Temple of Gaia,
the Elysian Fields, and the Cyclopes Island. There are four playable characters
in the original release of the game; Kratos alone, Atreus, Deimos, and Athena.
A sequel titled God of War II was released in 2017 for
PlayStation 4 and Windows. A third entry in the franchise, God of War III, was
announced at E3 2019.
